OUR MISSION
No child should experience living for years and years with pain caused by dental issues. Dental pain should not have the power to affect how a child behaves and performs in school, and we all have the power and responsibility to help these kids.
If we don’t help them, no one will.
Why this specific county in Romania?
Calarasi County is one of the poorest in Romania. Because of this, many adults either leave the area or the country and try to find better paying jobs, or they stay and live off of government help. This creates a common situation where the children are either abandoned, or they are left with their grandparents, who do their best to raise them up.
We have lived in Calarasi, we have worked in Calarasi, and we have been staying in very close touch with different leaders and communities from this county. We are personally connected to this place.
The Outcome and Impact of Our Work
Short term impact: Children will have healthy teeth, which will help their behavior, which will automatically help them in school and in their social life. Most of us know what a bad attitude we can have when we have a bad toothache. Now imagine having it for years; it can have terrible consequences over time, in most aspects of life.
Long term impact: There are generations of people that have lived in these areas for hundreds of years, and they’ve always been impoverished and outcast. By doing what we do, we are sure we are adding a stepping stone for these kids, so that they can grow up healthier and wiser than the generations before them. This generation can break the poverty cycle and what we do can have a major impact in their lives, and the generations coming after them.
How are we helping the kids?
Our process is very simple:
We receive the donations.
We take the children to a trusted local dental office.
We buy dental supplies for the children.
We teach them dental hygiene.
We want to be transparent with our finances, that’s why we will show receipts of every dental procedure and supply we purchase.
